Trees and Forests

I find trees to be one of my favourite subjects to photograph; they are also one of the hardest. Trees by their very nature twist and turn unpredictably making composition a challenge, especially in a deep forest setting. Within some of the thickest old growth forests light is almost impenetrable and very long shutter speeds are not uncommon. I am always amazed at the tenacious grip on life that some trees display, especially those in high alpine environments or those in extreme dry climates. Within this gallery you will find images from the rainforests of the Pacific Northwest, deserts of the southwest and alpine environments in between.
