Big Lonely Doug    Gordon River Valley, Port Renfrew, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

Located in the Gordon river valley on Vancouver Islands west coast stands Big Lonely Doug. At 66 meters tall and estimated to be 1000 years old Lonely Doug is Canada's second tallest known Douglas Fir. The tallest Douglas Fir stands only a few kilometers from this one in the Red Creek area. The big difference being that the Red Creek Fir still stands among other giants in the area. Big Lonely Doug is all alone midst the harsh reality of clear-cut logging. Dotted around the area where this giant grows lies the remnants of many other old large trees.
