River Otters Retreat    Jack Point, Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

All along the east coast of Vancouver Island and the surrounding Gulf Islands interesting sandstone alcoves, caves and bizarre rock tafoni can be found. I discovered this overhanging sandstone rock ledge while hiking up to Jack Point in Nanaimo. These caves serve as great sheltered places for river otters as was evident by the abundance of otter scat.
