Saltwort    Lac Du Bois Grasslands, Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada

I thought that this was a neat thing to see. Throughout the BC interior there are a number of these small lakes and ponds that have Saltwort growing around the edges. Most of the year you probably wouldn't notice the plant, but in late summer/fall it turns a wonderful crimson colour. Most of these bodies of water are very Alkaline and support very little life other than this plant. Supposedly the plant can be eaten, tastes like pickle. I haven't tried it yet though.
