Uplands Camas    Upland Regional Park, Oak Bay, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

Garry Oaks (Quercus garryana) and their surrounding meadows have become increasingly threatened over the years. A few pockets of intact land remain throughout southern Vancouver Island and the surrounding Gulf Islands. The areas that have been set aside as either parks or nature preserves do maintain much of their former glory. The two main threats to these delicate ecosystems are the introduction of foreign plant species, the most invasive being Scotch Broom (the yellow shrub seen in this image) and land development.
