Heron Rocks, Hornby Island

Our first stop will be Hornby Island, where we'll spend two nights at the Sea Breeze Lodge. Hornby Island offers some wonderfully quiet photography on the shores of Heron Rocks and Tribune Bay. While on the Island, we'll be focusing on the more intimate views of nature, including some fantastic Tafoni rock patterns found throughout the Island. This workshop also includes a couple of presentations from Adam, where we'll chat about composition, light and the importance of finding your voice with your photography. Time permitting, we will also have a critique session where we encourage participants to talk about their photographs while giving feedback.

Our second stop of the workshop, we'll be spending two nights at the Casa Grande Inn in Qualicum. In this session, we will concentrate on waterfalls and some local seascapes in the Parksville area. Lodging and transportation throughout the workshop are included.

More Information….

Where is Hornby Island and Parksville

Parksville lies on the east coast of Vancouver Island, overlooking the Strait of Georgia, roughly 30km north of Nanaimo. The drive from Nanaimo takes about 30 minutes. Hornby Island is one of the northern Gulf Islands and takes roughly 50 minutes from Parksville to the ferry terminal at Buckley Bay. There are two ferry rides to Hornby, both taking roughly 15 minutes.

How hard will the hiking be? PLEASE READ, IMPORTANT!

Hiking? Who said anything about hiking? Yes, we will be walking to some locations. The distances are typically no more than 1 km or so. However, all locations will require a walk, including hills. If you have mobility problems, this is probably not your trip.

What camera gear should I bring?

The following are some recommendations. Generally, we will be focusing primarily on landscape photography but may encounter some wildlife shooting opportunities. Ideally, since we will be walking throughout the day and carrying our own gear, equipment should be kept to a minimum. Here is a list of what we typically carry in the field.
