Composition isn’t a formula. It’s a way of seeing.

Most composition books begin with diagrams — leading lines, the rule of thirds, the golden ratio.

Stillness & Structure isn’t about any of that.

This book moves beyond formulas and into the quieter forces that actually shape strong photographs: flow, visual weight, balance, negative space, light, weather, rhythm, and intuition. It’s about understanding why an image feels steady or unsettled, powerful or flat — and learning how to respond to what’s in front of you rather than forcing a rule onto it.

Written for advanced beginners who already know how to operate their camera but want their images to carry more meaning, this book draws on over three decades of field experience. Through real examples — including RAW files alongside finished photographs — I show how subtle decisions in framing, light, and restraint make the difference.

Composition isn’t geometry. It’s awareness. It’s patience. It’s learning to trust your instinct and shape the frame so it reflects how the moment actually felt.

Antarctica ($14.99)

In 2008, my partner Karin and I travelled to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia Island, and the Antarctic Peninsula. It was my first visit to the area, and it didn't disappoint. This adventure was a life-changing experience. The raw beauty and seemingly abundant wildlife opened my eyes to what true wilderness should be. As a result, I swore that I would return one day.

Twelve years later, my wish came true, and in 2022, photographer Nigel Danson invited me to a group workshop on the Antarctic Peninsula. On the first adventure, I was enamoured with the wildlife and, as a result, took hundreds of photographs of birds and mammals. On the second trip, I decided to concentrate more on the landscape and brought a medium-format camera to the Peninsula to capture the magnificent landscape.

'Antarctica' results from a culmination of photographs taken on these two independent adventures to the Antarctic Peninsula.
